Occidental Births a Monster

At Occidental College in 1981, a loner snorts cocaine and smokes marijuana, secretly hoping to one day become someone important. His dream - and much more - comes true when Satan appears, promising the world. There is one caveat, though, as a deal with the Devil requires consideration. In this case, not just the delivery of the young man's soul, but millions more...

What is going on with stimulus funds?

We ask this question from time to time, anxiously waiting for the Promised Land sprayed with taxpayers’ money. Today’s media reported that the first stimulus funds arrived in New Jersey. They are increased funds for food stamps. Approximately 231,000 New Jersey families who use food stamps will receive 13.6 percent more to spend. These are not exactly shovel ready projects that will create new jobs in this economic crisis. It sounds more like stimulating welfare nationwide on taxpayers’ tab.

Are we for a ride or what?

I DREAMED A DREAM!

Dear Republicans, Conservatives, Dreamers, and Friends of all Ages,

While many of us write about and/or attend TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Day today (with one occurring at the Hackensack Court House later this afternoon), I offer you another form of inspiration and encouragement. When our spirits are depressed by personal setbacks, unfulfilled hopes, and the terrible turmoil and downward spiral of our beloved country, we need periodic infusions like this.

Do French know something we do not?

Sarkozy Reportedly Criticized Obama The Financial Times reports that during "a meeting with a cross-party group of French parliamentarians," French President Nicolas Sarkozy reportedly said President Obama "is 'not always up to standard on decision-making or efficiency.'" The New York Times reports Obama, "according to Mr. Sarkozy, 'has a subtle mind, very intelligent and very charismatic. But he was elected two months ago and never ran a ministry in his life. He doesn't have a position on a number of things.'"

What is going on with the stimulus funds?

BOSTON – Some town leaders say the federal stimulus package, with its promise of creating jobs, is neglecting to invest in the cornerstones of community life, from new city halls to recreation centers.
There's some money to hire police officers, but no money to rebuild the stations they work in. The opposite's true for firefighters. No money to hire more, but at least some funding to improve firehouses.
Money for wind turbines? Yes. New traffic signs? Yes. Hybrid car discounts? Yes.
Money for new libraries? No. New town halls? No. Swimming pools? No. School athletic stadiums? No.

NO TAX FREEDOM IMMINENT FOR NJ

Tax Freedom Day has already passed for most Americans – but not yet for overtaxed New Jerseyans.

For most taxpayers, it is past the date in which if all their wages earned this year went to local, state and federal governments, they would be off the hook for the rest of the year.

New Jerseyans, however, have to keep working until the end of the month to settle up with Uncle Sam and New Jersey’s own bearded tax man, Gov. Jon S. Corzine.

Late night jokes

Jimmy Fallon: "I saw this today. President Obama gave a major speech on the economy and, once again, he promised Americans change, specifically pennies, nickels, dimes, and stuff like that."

What is going on with stimulus funds?

Republicans Blast Stimulus Implementation. The Politico says Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee "attacked the implementation" of President Obama's stimulus, "raising the prospect that states will exploit a loophole to use money tagged for Medicaid to fund other programs."
