WASHINGTON – In assuring Americans that BP won't control the compensation fund for Gulf oil spill recovery, President Barack Obama failed to mention that the government won't control it, either.

That means it's anyone's guess whether the government can, in fact, make BP pay all costs related to the spill.

Obama aimed high in his prime-time Oval Office address Tuesday night — perhaps higher than the facts support and history teaches — as he vowed to restore livelihoods and nature from the still-unfolding calamity in the Gulf of Mexico.

Senators Demand Answers on Venezuela’s Links to Terrorism

A dozen Republican senators have sent a letter challenging the Obama administration to explain what it knows about Venezuela’s support for terrorism and suggesting that the country be declared a “state sponsor of terrorism.”

“Hugo Chavez’s relationships with Iran and other foreign terrorist organizations continue to grow and pose a serious threat to our hemisphere,” Sen. George LeMieux of Florida, one signer of the letter, said of the Venezuelan president.

Am I the only one who wonders what could possibly be the agenda of any politician who would thwart our drive toward energy independence? Continuing to lock up America’s domestic energy reserves, including the energy-rich Last Frontier of Alaska, only equips dangerous foreign regimes as they fund terrorist organizations to harm us and our allies.

Governor Christie yesterday held a Cap 2.5 town hall meeting in Roxbury. During the event, the Governor discussed the Senate passing legislation to eliminate COAH and reform affordable housing in New Jersey.

Kathleen A. Donovan, Republican candidate for Bergen County Executive, said today that the Christie administration "should freeze any pension and benefits awards for the county's former Technical and Special Services Superintendent until a thorough investigation is conducted into the McNerney administration's handling of the entire matter."

Donovan continued, "if hard working teachers are being asked to take pay cuts evidently in violation of their contractual agreements then a disgraced superintendent's contract should certainly be fully on the table."

Oil Spill Tests Obama's Management Of Federal Bureaucracy Politico reports the "Gulf oil crisis is testing" President Obama's "ability to master the federal bureaucracy in a way no other crisis has - with decidedly mixed results." Obama has "struggled for the past month to find the right balance between micro- and macro-management as the Deepwater Horizon spill in the Gulf of Mexico has grown into an environmental cataclysm and political disaster."
