We would like to receive the answer from the source – Jeff Bader. He did send a letter to BCRO County Committee members last month introducing himself. Recently, an e-mail was sent out with endorsements by current assembly members Robert Schroeder (elected in November) and Charlotte Vandervalk. Former freeholder Lisa Randall also endorsed him.
Why the big guns of the Northern Bergen County fired their artillery? Would it be that the North is afraid of the candidates from the Southern New Jersey? Unfortunately, the South Bergen does not have any assembly members to return the salvo.
We do not think that endorsements of the GOP establishment will help Jeff Bader at all. He has to convince the County Committee members that he is the right candidate. Apparently, Mr. Bader says that he is such a candidate. So do other eight contenders. We would like to look at his letter with some caution (letter is reproduced below).
In the letter Jeff claims that the Woodcliff Lake Council held the line with zero tax increases for the past two years. The Record published a table with property taxes in Bergen County on Saturday (February 27, 2010). In this table Woodcliff Lake property taxes are listed as follows: 2008 - $13,316; 2009 $13,484 – increase 1.3 percent. It is a small increase on a huge amount over thirteen thousand dollars. However, it is not a “zero tax increases for the past two years” as claimed by Mr. Bader.
What are his other qualifications according to his letter: the experience, knowledge, ability and energy, committed, ready to step up and play an active role.
Mr. Bader is a successful businessman, a husband and father of three children.
We think that BCRO should look carefully at all nine candidates before it chooses three to represent them in November. We do not think that “a rising star in NJ politics” Robert Schroeder has enough experience himself to step into Bergen County political arena by pushing candidates upon County Committee.
Editor
Dear Republican leader:
Please allow me to formally introduce myself to you: I am a longtime member of the Woodcliff Lake Borough Council; a lifelong, committed organization Republican; and I am now a candidate for Bergen County Freeholder.
Why am I a candidate? Because I believe I have the experience, knowledge, ability and energy to help our party win in November and govern as a majority next year. I am firmly committed to the structure of victory through unity conceived by our candidate for County Executive Rathe Donovan, and County Chairman Bob Yudin. All of us wh0 attended the January 12 county committee meeting came away inspired and confident that if we field our strongest slate, we can win in November. I am ready to step up and play an active role in making that happen.
I have been a member of the Woodcliff Lake Council for nine years. We have a great Republican team, and our results speak for themselves. When most municipalities saw their property taxes rise in recent years, we held the line with ZERO TAX INCREASES FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. We have held the line on spending without reducing necessary services. We have not had to resort to "furloughs," pension deferrals or any of the other gimmicks conceived by Democratic lawmakers. We did it the same way you do it at home: we said NO to spending we couldn't afford.
This fiscal discipline and restraint has also served me well for more than three decades running a successful trucking business. It is this proven track record of financial know-how and accountability that I will bring to the Board of Freeholders.
As a husband and father of three children, I know that Bergen County has been a great place to raise a family, but that the financial burdens of residing here are considerable. Working with Kathe Donovan and our Republican team, we will usher in a new era of accountability, and make Bergen County a better and more affordable place to live.
I will campaign just as hard countywide as I have in Woodcliff Lake in order to bring a positive Republican message Javoters. LbelieveJ can be particularly helpful in the Pascack Valley, where Democrats have made inroads in recent years. Our last Republican Freeholder from this region was Lisa Randall. Like Lisa, I have successfully attracted Independent and Democrat support, while adding to the Republican base. I will work tirelessly to ensure victory in November for the Republican team.
I want to earn your support. I look forward to meeting you prior to the March 18 BCRO convention, presenting my credentials, and responding to your questions. My contact information is below: please call or email me with questions, comments, or to lend your assistance as a campaign supporter.
Thank you for your consideration.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – Assemblyman Robert Schroeder endorsed Woodcliff Lake Councilman Jeff Bader today, and is the latest Bergen County Republican leader to get behind the Woodcliff Lake Councilman. Assemblyman Schroeder previously served on the Washington Township Council from 1991-2010. After being elected to the state legislature this past November he is one of the rising stars in NJ politics.
“As someone who served many years on the Municipal Council I can appreciate the great job Jeff has done over the years. I can tell you firsthand how difficult it has been in recent years to keep municipal tax increases small, that is why it is so impressive that Jeff and his colleagues in Woodcliff Lake were able achieve “zero tax increase” the past two years. As a business owner myself I know how important it is to bring that perspective to governing. Jeff’s reputation as successful business owner gives me even more confidence that he will make the right decisions for Bergen County and represent the Republican ticket with distinction in November,” said the Assemblyman.
Jeff has served on the Woodcliff Lake Council for nine years and has run a successful trucking business for over three decades. He looks forward to bringing his experience as a business owner as well as his record of fiscal conservatism to the Freeholder Board. On March 18th the Bergen County Republican Committee and Elected officials will vote to endorse 3 candidates for the Republican Nomination.

Woodcliff Lake, NJ – Assemblywomen Charlotte Vandervalk joins a growing list of Bergen County leaders to endorse Woodcliff Lake Councilman Jeff Bader for Freeholder. Assemblywoman Vandervalk previously served on the Bergen County Freeholder Board from 1986-1991 and on the Montvale Council from 1980-1985. The longtime Assemblywomen is one of the most respected members of the State Legislature with a long history of representing the interests of Bergen County residents.
“The best way to determine if someone will do a good job at a new position is to examine how they handle their current position. If you look at the job Jeff has done on the Woodcliff Lake Council there is no doubt in my mind he will make an exceptional Freeholder. Most impressive is his record of fiscal responsibility and the fact that Jeff and his colleagues have held the line in spending with a “zero tax increase” the past two years. Added to his resume his reputation as a successful business owner, Jeff Bader makes a topnotch candidate to represent the Republican Party”, said the Assemblywoman.

FORMER ASSEMBLYWOMAN and FREEHOLDER LISA RANDALL ENDORSES JEFF BADER FOR BERGEN COUNTY FREEHOLDER

February 19, 2010 p: (201) 274-9831 e: info@bader4freeholder.com
Woodcliff Lake, NJ – The last Republican elected to the Bergen County Freeholder Board prior to 2009, Lisa Randall today endorsed Woodcliff Lake Councilman Jeff Bader for one of the three nominations for the Republican Party. Lisa also served as commissioner of Banking and Insurance for the Whitman Administration as was an attorney in Governor Tom Kean’s Administration.
“After looking closely at all the fine candidates running for the nomination, Jeff is not only the most electable, but more importantly, the most qualified candidate. I have followed Jeff’s career as a public official for many years. While his work ethic and business acumen are great assets, what is most impressive is his record of fiscal responsibility. You would be hard pressed to find another elected official in Bergen County who has been key in helping his or her town realize a “zero tax increase” for the past two years,” said the former Freeholder.

Beware Bader
if this guy gets the nomination, he will bring the whole ticket down. A mediocre Councilman in an all Rep. town, who owns a trucking company and contributed on 5 different occasions to ROBERT MENENDEZ LIBERAL DEMOCRAT. He and his backers are pushing a little too hard. He will lose the conservative base in the general election
